As a designer, I’m a generalist, which has allowed me the luxury of working on a diverse collection of project types (Higher Education, Community and Cultural, K-12, Healthcare, Retail, Mixed Use, Multi and Single Family Residential, Transit Infrastructure…) I enjoy bringing together each design based on their individual qualities of site and program, celebrating them through thoughtful spatial organization and appropriate use of materials.

I believe community engagement is important to the profession of architecture, as such I have served for the AIA and the City of Raleigh in various capacities for the better part of the past 20 years.

When I was a kid I wanted to be an artist and a pitcher in the MLB.

When I’m not at work, I’m happiest when I’m painting or writing/playing music.

I have lived and worked across my native NC for my entire career. I started out studying architecture but found my true calling in interior design. One of my favorite things about living in Raleigh is our tight knit design community – everywhere I go I run into someone I’ve worked with. If we meet  and you’re not already a friend or client, just give me five minutes and you will be!

The most inspiring part of my job is when our client talks about their design goals and wants to create something fantastic!  That is what excites me.  Also, when a client’s first impression of a design solution makes them smile… before they speak!!!

A typical day for me is talking “a lot”, frequent impromptu desk crits/collisions in hopes to push the limits of design.  My coworkers are accustomed to me saying “are you sure you want it to look like that?”

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Architecture
Drexel University

Raised in PA, I studied at Drexel University in Philadelphia while working full-time for a mid-size architecture firm in the area. My wife and I fell in love with NC after visiting, and moved down as soon as we could after graduation. I have been blessed to work in a number of capacities on a variety of project types and sizes, and I’m always hungry for the next challenge!

When I’m not at work, I love building things in the garage, and working on projects around the house.

The most inspiring part of my job is finally getting to walk through a space that had only previously existed on my computer screen.
